One Tap Brightness and Sound Mode Shortcuts on Android

Android's brightness slider is fine for small changes, but it is hard to hit the same level every time. A brightness shortcut sets an exact level in one tap, and a sound mode shortcut switches to silent before a meeting without hunting for the volume panel.

System actions in TapOpen

  • Brightness: set an exact level, or switch between presets like low for night reading and full for outdoors.
  • Auto brightness: turn adaptive brightness on or off.
  • Sound mode: switch between ring, vibrate and silent.
  • Clipboard: clear what you last copied, useful after copying a password or OTP.

How to set one up

  1. Open TapOpen and choose the system action you want.
  2. Set the value, such as 30 percent brightness.
  3. Add it to the home screen, or add it as a Quick Settings tile.

Android protects these settings. The first time, it asks you to allow Modify system settings for brightness, and Do Not Disturb access on some phones for silent mode. You can turn these off again any time in Settings.

Ideas

  • A Night tile at 10 percent brightness with auto brightness off.
  • An Outdoor shortcut at 100 percent.
  • A Meeting tile that switches to vibrate.
  • A Clear clipboard tile after using a password manager.
